For clarification a cornice is the cabinet trim that fixes on the top of a kitchen wall cabinets whilst the pelmet is the smaller trim that goes around the bottom of the cabinet. So if you have a curtain fixture that you want to conceal not situated on the ceiling the surface you cover it with is called a pelmet not a cornice.

Cornices and pelmets are fitted in a similar way the only difference is that cornices go on the top of the cabinet and pelmets on the bottom.
